Choice Sheets

Publications I'm thinking of joining next year-
Im thinking about going to Year book next year, because I like how the students are responsible for two page spreads in the year book, because its a 200 page book. And I also like how students are responsible for all the content on the spread, like pictures, captions, headlines, and writing a short story. I also would want to be in year book just because I could say I've helped making it and I would get to see it before really anyone else in the school, Other than the students in my class of course.

Magazine Part II

Early Magazine Covers:

Early magazine covers used to model them after the covers of books. Only providing a title and publication data.  And there were also no descriptive words indicating what would be found inside of the magazine. The symbolic cover and it uses a generic illustration without showing any of the issues specific contents. In 1896 it shows cover design which is a illustration and has art, music, literature, science, and others.

The Poster Cover:

The poster covers are the covers that show pictures that need no words. Its from the 1890s to the 1960s and were oversized magazines and looked like they were printed to be framed and hung on a wall. Post covers still appear in magazines today, and they are confident in its audience, each of these magazines can present a cover with a single focus.

Sports Illustrated, Winter 2011: "Swimsuit 2011"
(Photograph by Bjorn Iooss)
Landing on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition makes supermodels into pop culture icons. Such was the case this year for Irina Shayk, a Russian beauty whose bronze skin and green eyes have made her a Swimsuit regular since 2007. Credit must also be given to photographer Bjorn Iooss, who snapped the cover photo with the first-ever Sports Illustrated shoot. Iooss' cover shot came one year after his father, Walter Jr., snapped his eleventh Swimsuit cover.

Magazine Tips

5 things about designing my magazine cover:

1. No matter what you put on the cover, keep the six functions of covers in mind:
1. Familiar recognition from issue to issue (that’s the brand)

2. Emotionally irresistible (that’s the image’s appeal)

3. Arousing curiosity (that’s to pull the casual glancer in)

4. Intellectually stimulating, interesting (that’s to promise benefits)

5. Efficient, fast, easy to scan (that’s showing off the service)

6. Worth the investment of money and time (that’s the “What’s in it for me?”)

It glows in vivid colors that will inevitably turn disappointingly dull when printed in ink. A hard-copy printout may be closer.

The screen is the wrong size, no matter how big it is. You can’t see it intimately as if it were in your hands.
